Archbishop Ofori-Atta calls for national unity
Dr George Sleazer Ofori-Atta, Presiding Archbishop of the International Council for the Clergy (ICC), has called on Ghanaian leaders to focus on building a unified country rather than focussing on the partisan style of authority.
“I wish that we will no longer talk about party affiliation, but talk about Ghana. This is our country and we need to be united,” he stressed.
Archbishop Ofori-Atta made the call at the 27th International Public Ministerial Ordination organised by the ICC in Accra on Saturday.
Dubbed: “The Impartation of the Father’s Blessing,” the event brought together 31 ministers of the gospel, drawn from various churches across the country, who were ordained and elevated to the high office of Apostleship.
Dr Ofori-Atta said the importance of persons who play fatherly roles in the society, whether physically or spiritually cannot be undermined.
He charged the clergy to desist from being partisan and instead use the gospel to preach peace, unity and development.
He congratulated Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general election and President John Dramani Mahama for the maturity and love exhibited regarding the verdict of the Supreme Court on the election petition.
The NPP filed the petition challenging the validity of the Electoral Commission declaring Mr Mahama as President in 2012.
