New-Dormaa yam sellers get new market

Traders at the Komkomba Yam market at New-Dormaa, a suburb of Sunyani, have appealed to the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to provide the facility with a place of convenience and electricity.

The traders said the market, which was constructed in 2002 lack some basic amenities including potable water.

Mr Peter Bilinyim, Secretary of the Komkomba Youth Association, made the appeal on behalf of the traders at the official opening of the market at the weekend.

He said the traders had abandoned the market and are trading along roads because authorities at the assembly had failed to provide security and other social amenities at the place.

Mrs Franklina Asamoah, Assembly woman for New-Dormaa Low Cost where the market is located commended the traders for moving into the market, and gave the assurance that she would liaise with the assembly for the provision of the facilities they need.

She appealed to non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to support the traders.

Mrs Asamoah advised the traders to form a watchdog committee to watch-over the market and guard against theft.

Barimah Yaw Boampong, Chief of New-Dormaa advised the traders to be vigilant as criminal activities is rife in the area.

He urged the traders not to take the law into their own hands but handover any thief they arrest to the police for prosecution.
