Ghana rakes over GH¢221,000 from Zambian game

The 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Zambia last week grossed GHC 221,020, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has revealed.

The staggering amount represents the 38,000 tickets sold at the Baba Yara Stadium last Friday for the crucial Group D encounter which the Black Stars won 2-1 to advance to the final round of the continental qualifiers.

Hamid Issaka, Public Affairs Director of the NSA told GNA Sports that his outfit has yet to settle on the net proceeds after the various deductions.

The six-digit figure is usually recorded at matches between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, and it represents a significant interest by the followers of the game.

This is contrary to reports that a section of fans had to watch the game from the confines of the Baba Yara Stadium due to the packed crowd.

The attendance was one of the largest recorded as almost every corner of the 42,000- plus capacity was filled.

Issaka also applauded the general organization of the match due to massive patronage as no casualties were recorded.

“It was not 100 per cent as there were few lapses. Though the stadium was full, nothing happened.”

He was however disturbed with mishaps from the sale of advance tickets, that led to scary price hikes at the ‘black market’.

The NSA Public Affairs Director said the issue will be discussed thoroughly to avoid future occurrences.
