Premier league officials move Liberty to Accra Sports Stadium
Liberty Professionals will host their home games of the 2013/2014 Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium at least for now.
This follows the rejection of their traditional grounds, Sly Tetteh Stadium in Dansoman, by the Premier League Board (PLB) for falling short of standards.
Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the PLB inspection team was the least enthused about facilities at the Sly Tetteh Stadium during their tour a few weeks ago.
The pitch at the stadium is in an unplayable state and the PLB has directed Liberty officials to improve its condition just as other basic facilities before a reversal to their home grounds will be considered.
The decision means that Liberty’s season opener against Wa All Stars will take place at the national stadium on Sunday, September 15 instead of the Sly Tetteh Stadium.
The ‘Scientific Soccer Lads’ will share the national facility with Hearts of Oak, habitual users of the stadium for decades.
The Accra Sports Stadium had served the home for Liberty upon joining the elite division more than a decade ago until relocating to Dansoman four years ago.
Meanwhile, newcomers Inter Allies find themselves in similar waters with the Tema Park being listed among the unplayable venues due to non-availability of a tunnel linking the dressing room to the pitch.
Inter Allies will host Ebususa Dwarfs at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 14.
