Thirteen arrested for committing environmental offences
The Agona Swedru Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of seven people who failed to appear before it for committing various sanitation offences.
They were among 13 people who were arrested by the Agona West Municipal Environmental Health and Sanitation Officers and were put before the Court but failed to appear before it.
Prosecuting, Mr John K. Nyameah, Environmental Health Officer told the Court presided over by Mr Kweku Baah Frempong that on September 2, the Environmental Health Officers during their inspection arrested the 13 people for causing environmental offences.
Mr Nyameah said the accused persons were arrested from Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom.
The offences include selling food and drinks to the public without valid medical certification, accumulation of human excreta in polythene bags behind their premises and rearing pigs at a place not meant for that.
Five of them who appeared before the court pleaded guilty and were fined between 60 and 360 Ghana cedis.
They would go to prison for periods ranging from three to six months if they fail to pay the fines.
