Christian Service University inducts new President

The Christian Service University College (CSUC) Governing Council, at the weekend inducted Professor Frances Owusu-Daaku as the new President at a ceremony in Kumasi.

Prof Owusu-Daaku was the immediate-past Vice-President of the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association and former President of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana.

She has about 30 years of teaching, research and administrative experience at the university level, and has also presented scholarly papers and abstracts at a number of local and international conferences and workshops.

Prof Owusu-Daaku, 56, replaces Prof Emmanuel Frempong, whose five-year tenure ended last year.

The Right Reverend Prof Osei Safo-Kantanka, Chairman of the CSUC Governing Council, charged her to bring her expertise to bear for effective administration of the institution.

Established in 1974 as a non-denominational tertiary institution, the College had expanded its academic frontiers, culminating in the running of four-year liberal arts degree programmes.

Rt Rev Safo-Kantanka said the new President had a duty to ensure that the vision and mission of CSUC are met.

He urged her to work in concert with stakeholders to strive for excellence in teaching, research and churning out students committed to serve and transform the society.

Prof Owusu-Daaku said she would pursue vigorously, a five-year fundraising campaign initiated by the Governing Council to raise funds for infrastructural development.

The campaign has targeted three million Dollars to be used in furnishing the College’s library, construction of an Information, Communication and technology block, as well as scholarship for brilliant-but-needy students.

Prof Owusu-Daaku noted that, under her administration, the CSUC would strengthen its global engagement efforts to serve as a springboard for collaborative research, faculty and student development and institutional progress.
