Microfinance firm said to have swindled clients in Takoradi
Some customers of the GHAMFO Savings and Loans Company operating in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis have accused the micro-finance of defrauding them.
Some of the customers told the GNA on Wednesday that after several months of saving with the company, they are not able to access their monies.
Mr. Daniel Odoom, a customer who claimed the company owed him about GHC3000, said attempts to retrieve his money had proved futile and a check at the Bank of Ghana revealed that the company was not a registered micro-finance entity.
Mr. Joshua Kofi Ansah, the General Manager of the company, confirmed the allegations when the GNA contacted him but added that the company was in the process of fulfilling its obligations to customers.
At the time of the GNA’s visit to the company, some clients were seen raining insult on officials of the company.
Mr Ansah said some customers of the company had contributed to its current financial predicament since they had failed to pay off loans given to them but assured customers that the company was working around the clock to pay clients that they were indebted.
“We are not running away, neither are we closing down,” he said and appealed to those owing the company to pay back their loans in order to bring the company back on its feet.
