Sunyani Catholic Diocese holds second Synod
The Catholic Diocese of Sunyani has ended its second Synod held as part of the church’s fortieth anniversary celebration after it was carved out of the Kumasi Diocese.
The Synod, being held on the theme “re-awakening the faith through a new wave of evangelization”, was aimed at reviewing the status of the church and plan the way forward towards the accomplishment of its evangelizing mission.
Reverend Monsignor George Kwame Kumi, Coordinator and Secretary-General of the one week programme, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that 200 delegates from the Diocese participated in the event.
They included all priests, the College of Consulters and the Curia, the church council presidents of each parish as well as representatives from the female congregations and the youth groups in the Diocese, he said.
The Senate comprised a cross section of Presbyters who advise the Diocesan Bishop on pastoral issues of concern whilst the College of Consulters including members of the Curia could be any number between six to 12 that the Bishop selects from the Senate to decide on more serious matters for the well-being of the Diocese.
The Curia membership consists of the Bishop, the Vicar-General (Assistant Bishop), the Chancellor (Secretary-General of the Diocese) and the Diocesan Financial Administrator.
Reverend Monsignor Kumi said the Synod had given serious attention to some thematic areas including education, spirituality and the youth.
He said the topics were meant to generate discussions that would lead to the growth of the church.
