Gov’t supports Effutu fishermen
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aqua-Culture has donated fishing equipment valued at Sixty thousand Ghana Cedis to 24 fishermen whose canoes and nets were destroyed by rainstorm that hit the district three months ago.
The items donated include coils for dragging the nets, twines for mending nets, floats and nets.
The donation was due to an appeal made by the Effutu Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
Mr Rolland Quainoo, Effutu Municipal NADMO Co-coordinator, who made the donation at a ceremony in Winneba, said the items were meant to relieve them from the hardships they experienced as a result of the disaster.
He expressed the hope that what they have received will facilitate their fishing activities.
Mr Quainoo urged them to insure their fishing equipment so that adequate assistance would be provided when disasters occur.
Neenyi Moni Kaiko, Effutu Chief Fisherman, on behalf of his people thanked Government for the support given to them adding that, the items provided indicate that government cares for the electorates.
He appealed to government for the commencement of work on the proposed Fishing Harbor project as promised to help protect their tools when there is rainstorm.
Each of the 24 canoe owners received coils of big robs quantities of floats, twins rob and nets.
