Society will improve with true Christians – Dr Aryee

Reverend Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, former Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, has noted that society would improve better if Christians obeyed Christ’s teachings sincerely.

“Christians in decision making positions should not only enjoy the accompanying prestige, but also ensure that decisions they take make the lives of people, especially the less privileged, better,” she said in Tema at the Bethel Family Chapel’s Family and Friends Day on Sunday.

The occasion was on the theme: “The Role of the Church in Alleviating Poverty and the Fight against Corruption in Ghana.”

Rev. Dr Aryee, who is also the founder of the Salt and Light Ministry, said one cardinal principle and teaching in Christianity was the need to help others.

Unfortunately, she said, most Christians of today did not seem to obey this teaching.

“The Church as a body should speak against economic systems and other situations that keep enslaving people to poverty,” she said.

She said it was unfortunate that whilst Christians were supposed to be the light of the world, they rather formed the bed-rock of corruption and moral decadence.

“Do not think you are exempted because you may only be over-looking your own short comings,” she noted.

She continued: “Bribing your way out of a traffic offence, taking money before working on people’s files in the office, bribing school authorities for your child who is not qualified to gain admission, all amount to corruption”.

Rev. Dr Aryee also urged Christians to be sincere with their belief, and give their all towards nation building.

Rev. Andrews Awintia, Head Pastor of the Church, explaining the background to the celebration of the Family and Friends Day, said it was to strengthen family bonds, bring the church closer to the community and also, create an opportunity for prayers to be offered on behalf of the nation.

Rev. Dr Aryee launched a fund for the needy to mark the occasion.
