Gov’t pays research allowance to lecturers
Mr Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education, said on Tuesday that government has met its obligations towards the payment of books and research allowance of lecturers in tertiary institutions.
Mr Okudzeto-Ablakwa said all necessary arrangements had been made for the lectures to receive their cheques.
Commenting on the computerised school placement, he said the exercise has not ended since it is being done in phases.
He expressed the hope that at the end of the second phase all students would get the chance to be in senior high school.
“We want parents to be assured that government will do everything for their wards not to be left behind in their educational life,” he affirmed.
Mr Okudzeto-Ablakwa was speaking in Accra when donors presented the second batch of items and cash to the Ministry towards this Year’s National Best Teacher Awards (NBTA) slated for Wa on October 5.
The five companies that presented items and cash to the Ministry included rlg Foundation, Afram Publications, Fidelity Bank, SIC Life Company Limited and VIDYA Publications.
Apart from presenting a saloon car for the second runner up, rlg Foundation also presented one desktop, a laptop and a printer valued at GH¢50,000,000.
Afram Publications also presented a cheque for GH¢20,000.000.
Fidelity Bank also gave out a cheque for GH¢ 2,000.000 to the Ministry, SIC Life Company Limited pledged to support this year’s NBTA with 24 double door fridges, 1000 pieces of T-shirts and a Life Insurance cover for all three winners, totalling GH¢140,000.000
VIDYA Publications presented books worth GH¢6,000.00 for lower primary schools.
Mr Alex Kyeremeh Deputy Minister of Education Pre-Tertiary and Chairman of the National Planning Committee of the Best Teacher Award Scheme who received the awards expressed his gratitude to the donors.
The 19th edition of the NBTA would be on the theme “A call for teachers: Teachers take the lead for quality education”.
