Two people drown in Hohoe

river_ankobrahTwo people, including a Togolese national, have drowned in separate incidents at the Hohoe, Police sources have disclosed.

Mr Kartey Otumi, Hohoe Divisional Crime Officer, told newsmen on Wednesday that  Boniface Kornu, a 42-year-old epileptic from Fodome-Ando drowned in the Nubui River at Fodome as a result of the torrential rains on that day.

Mr  Otumi said the Police did not suspect any foul play, and that  the body of the  deceased  had been deposited at the Hohoe Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In the second incident, he said, an unknown Togolese, only referred to as “Aduro Wura,” by residents because he peddled herbal medicines, was suspected to have drowned in the Dayi River.

Mr Otumi said Police investigations had  led to the discovery of a pair of  trouser, shirt and a sponge at the bank of the river after some residents alleged they had earlier seen the missing man at the spot.

The Divisional Crime Officer said, a receipt bearing the name Seidu Mohammed was found in one of the pockets of the trousers, apparently covering  a mobile phone he purchased.

Mr Otumi, therefore, appealed to members of the public to volunteer information, while alerting communities along the banks of the river, to be on the watch-out for any floating body.
