19-year-old food vendor granted GH¢5,000 bail

law-and-justiceA Tarkwa Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000 to a 19- year-old food vendor, Charlotte Afful for intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to one Patricia Nyameyedo.

She pleaded not guilty and will re-appear before the Court on October 28.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the Court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complaint Patricia Nyameyedo and the accused are both food vendors for one Madam Charlotte at Tamso School Junction in Tarkwa.

He said on October 5 Madam Charlotte travelled and asked the complaint to cook and distribute the food to the accused and one Martha for sale.

He said the complainant prepared jollof rice and packed them in a take-away bowls and distributed it to the two but when they returned after sale of the food and handed over their money to the complainant, she detected that Afful’s own was short by GH¢3.00 and she informed the accused who promised to pay the difference the next day.

Inspector Paddy said the complainant informed Madam Charlotte when she returned from her trip on October 7 and when Afful was confronted she told her that it was rather the complainant who stole the said money.

The Prosecutor said when the complainant heard about it and confronted the accused she taunted the complainant that she was the one who stole the money and this infuriated her and in the ensuing altercation the accused suddenly grabbed her left thumb of the complainant, into her mouth and bit it off.

He said on October 9 the complainant reported the matter to the Nsuta Police where she was issued with a medical form to attend hospital for treatment.

Inspector Paddy said the accused was later arrested and charged with the offense.
