Indian firm introduces Bajaj motorbikes in Ghana
SOMOCO Ghana Limited in partnership with Baja Auto, an India based motorbike manufacturer, has launched the Bajaj Boxer 150 Motorbikes into the Ghanaian auto market.
The new Boxer 150 Motorbike is targeted at low end users who intend to use it to run errands on a daily basis.
Mr Krishna Srinevasa Grihapathy, Senior Vice President, Bajaj Auto, said the new Bajaj Motorbike has many advantages over other bikes.
He said the bikes have low fuel consumption, robust, and are a product clients could use for 15 years with ordinary maintenance.
Mr Grihapathy said these products are being sold currently through the three fully equipped sales and service showrooms in Accra, Tamale and Kumasi.
“In next year, the company aims to establish its sales and service outlet in over 30 towns in Ghana,” he said.
Mr Grihapathy said the new brand “Boxer” commanded a market share of 40 per cent in Nigeria, the biggest market in Africa, 90 per cent in Uganda, 35 per cent in Angola and 30 per cent in Kenya.
He said one of the main success factors, apart from the quality of the motorbike, has been the company’s ability to cater to the service and spare parts requirements of its customers.
Mr Grihapathy said the company had decided to partner with SOMOCO Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Mohinani Group, because of its wide business coverage in Ghana.
“It is the authorized distributor and has already started operations in Accra, Tamale and Kumasi,” he said.
Madam Joyce Mogtari, Deputy Minister for Transport, urged the Mohinani Group to provide customers road safety tips and also promote the use safety gears especially helmets.
She urged them to consider opening a manufacturing plant in Ghana to provide job opportunities for the people.
The Deputy Minister praised the Group for introducing an environmentally friendly product to the Ghanaian market.
Mr Sunil Mohinani, Director of Mohinani Group, said the Group was committed to solving customers’ needs by introducing world class and efficient products unto the Ghanaian market.
He said this was the reason why SOMOCO decided to partner Bajaj Auto to launch the product.
