Ghana Premier League: Asante Kotoko maintains lead
Asante Kotoko chalked their sixth successive victory to maintain a hundred per cent record in the Premier League with a 2-1 scoreline over visiting Sekondi Hasaacas in their outstanding game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on Thursday.
The homers had to defend gallantly, especially in the latter stages of the match as a determined Hasaacas side rallied for the equalizer with a blistering series of attacks.
It took the ingenuity of Kotoko’s goalkeeper Isaac Amoako to seal victory for the defending champions with some well-anticipated saves much to the relief of the vociferous Kotoko fans.
Kotoko broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with a thunderbolt of a free-kick from about 25 yards from skipper Michael Akuffo.
The ball took a deflection off a Hasaacas defender and found the back of the net.
Kotoko increased the goal tally in the 46th minute through Richard Mpong.
An unmarked Mpong intercepted a pass in the vital area, outpaced his marker and placed the ball beyond the reach of Hasaacas’ goalkeeper, Melvin King.
The visitors reduced the tally in the 55th minute through Frederick Quayson.
