Man shot dead in Bawku
One person died and two others sustained gunshot injuries when an unknown person shot at them on Friday night at Kpalore section of Bawku town.
A security source in Bawku who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday night said the deceased, a tricycle rider, had so far only been identified by his nick-name ”Fifty cent”, The injured are responding to treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.
The source who preferred to remain anonymous, said there had been no reprisal attack or counter-fire from any quarters so far, and that the incident which occurred at about 20.35 hours, had put security personnel in the Bawku Municipality and its environs on high alert.
Given the fact that the incident occurred barely two hours ago, security agencies on the ground are now working to dig up the details surrounding the shooting, the source told the GNA, but added that the atmosphere in the Bawku township was characterized by an uneasy calm.
Bawku which was sometime ago the business hub of northern Ghana, has deteriorated in recent times due to a protracted ethnic conflict.
Even though relative peace has returned to the area, with life gradually returning to normal, the one-time economic haven has continued to experiences some skirmishes once in a while.
