PAWA postpones Chinua Achebe international conference
The Pan Africa Writers’ Association has postponed its international conference on Chinua Achebe to April 2014 due to the brutal killing of Kofi Awoonor in Nairobi.
A statement signed by Professor Atukwei Okai, Secretary General of PAWA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the registration fee for the conference remains 200 dollars payable at the venue of the conference.
It said the date for the submission of abstracts for the 5th -8th April conference is now January 30, 2014 while the date for the submission of the full paper is March 10, 2014.
The statement said the event to celebrate the life and works of Chinua Achebe was originally planned to occur in Accra from November 5 to 8, 2013.
“PAWA will announce other details of the international conference such as information on venue and programme sessions, in the new year”, it added.
The statement said PAWA counted on the continued interest of all those who have already indicated their intension to attend the conference and expect that the postponement will provide the opportunity for more to attend.
