Ghana bans boxing promoter four years
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has banned Solomon Otoo, a promoter and match maker for four years.
Information pieced together by GNA Sports indicates that, the GBA cited Otto’s role in an alleged match fixing involving Ghana’s Frank Dodze and Nasreddine Dahou of Algeria when both squared for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Welterweight Interim Title at the Accra Sports Stadium last month.
The corner men of Dodze under strange circumstances threw in the towel after the Ghanaian had knocked down the Algerian in round three for the North African to be declared winner.
The GBA after investigations found Otoo, the promoter and match maker culpable and has subsequently banned him four years effective October 1, 2013.
Otoo’s license will be withheld by the GBA for the period of the ban.
Meanwhile, Joseph Kweifio and Michael Patterson- members of the boxer’s management team have also been banned two years for their roles in the scandal.
Marcel Nii Amu Tetteh, second corner man of Dodze has also been banned.
Tetteh, who climbed onto the apron of the ring and signaled the referee to end the fight without authorization is disallowed from entering any boxing ring until a determination of his license status.
Dodze is said to have consented to lose the fight only to knock out his opponent after a late change of heart.
The GBA is expected to submit a copy of the report from its investigation to the World Boxing Council (WBC) for necessary action against the Algerian boxer and his handlers.
