Ghanaian youth partners Norwegians in business setup
Members of 4H-Ghana, a non-governmental organization (NGO), committed to developing the youth to become future leaders through hands-on projects, are collaborating with Norwegians to establish small-scale enterprises.
The Norwegian youth are in Ghana to join their Ghanaian counterparts to identify some developmental projects and jointly work on them.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Appiah Kweku-Boateng, Executive Director of 4H-Ghana, said the project fell within the hands-on activity model of the 4H concept, which allows young people to experience the world through practice.
He expressed the hope that the Ghanaian youth would sustain the projects that would be developed into full scale businesses.
Mr Kweku-Boateng said the 4H Ghana was working with schools and out-of-school youth to train future farmers through the Enterprise Garden Project.
He said the NGO was supporting the youth and their schools to establish school gardens, while the out-of-school youth were also supported to develop community farms to generate incomes and to increase food production.
Under the project, 4H-Ghana provided the participants with seeds and technical support to enable them produce food and generate incomes for themselves.
Ms Dianne Elkaas, one of the resource persons with the 4H-Norway team, expressed worry that most young people did not appreciate the need to start enterprises on small scal, and to gradually expand into medium and large scale.
“In Norway, the practice is that often young people start with small scale enterprises which they can manage,” she said.
