Bawku West gets DCE
Assembly Members of the Bawku West District on Tuesday voted to confirm Mr Simon Ayande Agbango, the president’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE).
Prior to his nomination and appointment as DCE, Mr Agbango was the Chairman of the Finance and Administration sub-committee of the assembly.
The District Assembly has been without a District Chief Executive for close to a year now.
Out of the 48 members of the assembly present at the time of voting, 45 of them, representing 93.7 per cent, voted to confirm Mr Agbango, while three members voted against him.
In accordance with the standing orders of the Assembly, the DCE needs two-thirds majority of members of the assembly present during the time of voting to be confirmed.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Upper East Regional Minister, addressing members of the assembly before voting commenced, called on members to give the nominee a 100 per cent endorsement to enhance the development of the assembly.
He said development would be stalled if members failed to confirm the president’s nominee as DCE, adding that, development in other parts of the region had been hindered due to the inability of members to confirm the president’s nominees.
He added that, consultations were underway to get suitable candidates for the position of DCE for the Bawku Municipality, indicating that, development interventions such as the Sapeliga Small Town Water System funded by the World Bank would soon take off.
Mr Cletus Avoka, Member of Parliament for Bawku West, also urged the members to confirm the president’s nominee, saying that, the president had heeded to the calls of the people to swiftly nominate somebody for the DCE position.
He said the nominee was a development oriented individual who would bring the needed development the district desired.
He commended members of the assembly for staying united, even in the absence of a DCE, to preside over meetings of the Executive Committee of the Assembly.
Mr Ayande Agbango, expressed his appreciation to the members of the assembly and said he would, in collaboration with the assembly, increase the internally generated funds by the assembly.
“I will vigorously pursue the agenda of increasing internally generated funds for the development of the district with the support of members and other opinion leaders” he pledged.
