Ho Assembly to sanction Member

Mr Stanley Glate, Government Appointee to the Ho Municipal Assembly, is likely to face sanctions for allegedly describing members of the Assembly as “evil”.

His alleged abusive comments in the media followed the Assembly’s inability to endorse Madam Fafa Adinyira, the president’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive for the Ho Municipal Assembly.

Mr Glate is reported to have stormed radio stations in Ho where he alleged that members of the Assembly were demanding huge sums of money as  a condition to vote for Madam Adinyira.

At the third general Aassembly meeting on Wednesday, members expressed their displeasure about Mr Glate’s comments, and referred the case to the Public Relations and Complaints Committee.

The standing orders of the Assembly allows the Presiding Member to suspend Mr Glate for two assembly sittings, if found guilty.

Three-quarters of  membership of the Assembly can also vote to remove Mr Glate from the Assembly, based on the Committee’s recommendations.

Mr Courage Danku, Assembly Member for Sokode-Gborgame, said members were dignified persons some of whom are chiefs and queen-mothers and that  Mr Glate’s alleged comments damaged the image of the Assembly.

Some assembly members described Mr Glate’s allegation as false and said they neither took  money from Madam Adinyira nor  demand any money from her.

Mr Glate denied making such comments in the media.
