Avenor residents grateful to Global Communities

market1Residents of Avenor in Accra has expressed gratitude to the Global Communities, an international non-governmental organization, for constructing 1,340-kilometre drainage for the community.

The drainage would help minimize the havoc caused by perennial flooding in the area.

The project which was carried in two phases cost 74,000 dollars and was sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Mr Oscar Tagoe, Chairman of the Water and Sanitation Committee (WATSAN) at Avenor told the GNA in an interview.

He commended Global Communities and USAID for coming to the aid of the community and said floods and stagnant water which bred mosquitoes in the area was a thing of the past.

Mr Tagoe said cholera cases dropped as compared to the previous years following the construction of 16 Elevated Compost Global Communities and water had been connected to homes.

A delegation led by Mr Joseph K. Asante, Director of Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene for Urban Poor (WASH-UP) of Global Communities who supervised the handing over, thanked the Seliwas Construction Company, the contractor.

Mr Asante also expressed appreciation to the consultants, Supper Hydro Company Limited for the excellent job done.

He appealed to the residents of Avenor to be very vigilant and report to the WATSAN Committee members anyone they would find dumping refuse into drains.
