Rotary Club of Accra sponsors two paralympians to South Africa

Ghana’s only four-time Paralympian, Raphael Botsyo and a team mate have been sponsored by the Rotary Club of Accra to attend the 2nd Conference on Sport Science, Medical and Coaching support for Elite Athletes with Disabilities.

The event spans November 7- November 10 in Johannesburg.

Mr Botsyo is Head Coach at the Right to Dream Academy, an NGO that educates and trains athletes with disabilities and gifted indigent children.

Dr Juliette M. Tuakli, President of the Rotary Club of Accra, who is also the President of Council of Presidents of all rotary clubs in Ghana, announced that the body would hold a special Presidential fundraiser for the Right to Dream Academy on December 21.

She revealed that the sponsorship was made possible by the generous collaboration of Jeanette Ndhlovu, South African High Commissioner and Dr Peter Moley, Interventional Spine and Sports Fellowship Programme Director, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York.

Dr Tuakli said: “The Rotary Club of Accra wishes the two sponsored athletes all the best and thanks… Jeanette Ndhlovu and Dr Moley for supporting Rotary’s theme; Engage Rotary, Change Lives.”

The Paralympic Games is a major international multi-sport event, involving athletes with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities, including mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy.

Rotary is a worldwide service/volunteer organisation. More than 1.2milloin Rotarians around the world provide humanitarian service encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Rotary has been in Ghana since 1958 with the Accra Club being the Premier club.
