Steel bender arrested for stealing electronic gadgets
The Amasaman District Police Command on Tuesday arrested Mr Mark Dzepete, 24- year-old steel bender for stealing at Kuntinsi, near Amasaman at about 1400hrs.
Dzepete, a native of Keta in the Volta Region and resident of Sapeiman near Amasaman in the Ga West Municipal Assembly was arrested by some young men when he broke into a house and stole the items worth about GHC4,500.00, whiles its occupants were absent.
Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, Superintendent Kwadwo Asante, the District Police Commander said some good Samaritans suspected Dzepete of stealing when they saw him loitering around the area.
He explained that when Dzepete was questioned by the group, he could not give any tangible reasons which necessitated his arrest and upon a search on him, a packed bag containing the three mobile phones, two laptops, a UPS, chargers were found on him and consequently handed him over to the police.
He said upon police interrogation, Dzepete confessed stealing the items and led the Police to the house where the incident took place.
Supt. Asante further explained that Dzepete also demonstrated to them how he managed to squeeze himself through a window and made away with the booty after jumping over the fence into the building where the entire occupants were not around making it easy for him.
“He has being allegedly charged with unlawful entry and stealing and is being processed to Court” the District Commander added.
Superintendent Asante thanked the guys who liaised with the police in protecting the valuables as well as arresting Dzepete and urged other inhabitants to emulate the good example exhibited by the gentlemen to help protect lives and properties in the area.
He cautioned land lords and tenants to be security conscious and very vigilant when they leave their homes and to report all suspicious characters in their vicinity to the police on time.
