Disaster in waiting
Eight persons, including a child, risk losing their lives living in a crumbling wooden structure belonging to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) at VORADEP Village in Ho.
The over 30-year-old one-storey building, visibly unsteady, has a very weak base with some of the decaying woods giving way.
The inhabitants in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) claimed they do regular maintenance on the structure however indications are that the building, tipping on one side is giving signals of an impending disaster.
Another waiting disaster is a 70-year-old four-bedroom house which accommodates two families at Sokode near Ho.
Part of the building has collapsed with the roofs partly ripped off. The good portions of the roof have gaping openings and windows of the building are falling off, compelling the inhabitants to support them with wood.
Some abandoned billboards are also posing danger to road users, tilting towards the road and likely to cause road accident.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Ho told the Ghana News Agency they were not aware about the structures but were taking steps to have them demolished to avert disaster.
