South Africa beats Ghana in Polo Championship
South Africa defeated Ghana by five goals to three and-a-half in their International Polo Championship played at the Accra Polo Grounds on Saturday.
Led in attack by Sulemana Iddrisu, Ghana who were given a half goal due to their weak handicap opened the scoring two six minutes inside the first Chukka through Eric Gene.
Gene was on hand again when he added the second goal a minute later to end the Chukka.
The South Africans rallied and scored three quick goals in the second Chukkka through Angus Williamson, Lionel Foster and Andrews Gilson.
The South Africans from then on pinned the Ghanaians into their own half and scored a goal in the rest of the Chukkas through Foster and Gilson who was adjudged the best player of the competition.
Ghana however managed to score another goal in the fourth Chukka through Michael Mahama.
Kwakye Dopuah-Dei, Captain of the Accra Polo Club called on corporate Ghana to help develop the sport.
Madam Jeanette Ndhlovu, South African High Commissioner to Ghana presented the magnificent trophy to the winners.
