Accountant arrested over forgery, theft
A 32-year-old accountant of the Sefwiman Rural Bank, has been arrested over alleged theft of cash of GH¢8,500.00, belonging to a customer of the bank.
Evans Atta Mensah was said to have forged the signature of the customer to withdraw the money, an accusation he flatly denies.
He was put before the Bibiani Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Osei Kofi Amoako and granted GH¢8,500.00 bail.
He was ordered to return to court on Wednesday, December 4.
Police Chief Inspector Mike Agbaglo told the court that the complainant, who works at Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie-West District had for some time now being giving money to the accused to pay into his (complainant’s) account.
He later found that there had been a withdrawal of the said amount from the account.
The prosecution said Mensah had forged his signature on a counter cheque to withdraw the money and a formal report was made to the police leading to his arrest.
