Health Ministry to expand medical outreach programmes

Ms Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Health, has assured Ghanaians of medical outreach programmes in all the regions to ensure good quality health care.

The one-week  programme will target public and private schools, as well as the general public.

She gave the assurance during a medical screening and sensitization programme at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra on Wednesday.

According to the Health Minister, statistics based on a previous outreach has shown that certain communities are more vulnerable than others, and that t more attention has to be paid to those areas.

Ms  Ayittey said after the exercise, it came to light that  most children have eyes, ears and dental problems.

She assured the Media that after this exercise, reports will be sent to various schools for their heads to invite  parents to follow up with the treatment of their wards.

She explained that the screening was done to alert parents of the medical status of  their wards, to ensure that the children are maintained in  good quality health conditions..

Ms Ayittey assured Ghanaians that private schools will be included when the machines for the screening are in good state, and are functioning properly.

She promised to collaborate with the Minister of Education so that days are set aside in a year, to carry out special outreach programmes  for schools to ensure best medical attention for children.

Dr. Constance Addo-Yebo,  leader of the medical team and dental officer at the Ministry of Health, said the team wants to give treatment to communities who are infected with diseases, in order  to arrest them at the early stage for good health and long life.
