Three car snatchers on remand
Three persons who robbed an Egyptian of his Totoya Navara vehicle at gun point three years ago at Madina, near Accra, have been arrested and arraigned before an Accra circuit court.
Michael Tetteh, alias Wayo, Abdul Fatao, also known as Cameleon and Fatao Mohammed, alias Addis Ababa, on Thursday pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and robbery.
The court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, remanded them into custody to reappear on December 13 for hearing.
Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuoruka said the complainant, Mr Mansour Abuzaid, an Egyptian, is the director of Care and Social Development Organization, a non-governmental organization in Accra.
On October 10, 2010, Chief Supt. Tuoruka said at about 20:00 hours, Mr Abuzaid was driving from Madina to Red Lobster, a popular joint in Madina.
The prosecutor said on reaching Rawlings Circle at Madina, a taxi crossed his vehicle. Four men, who were armed with guns, alighted from the taxi and ordered him to get out of his car.
The armed men further inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on him and left Mr Abuzaid to his fate.
The armed men, prosecution said, took away Mr Abuzaid’s vehicle, two Nokia phones valued at 700 pounds and GH¢ 40 cedis.
Mr Abuzaid was, however, rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was admitted for one month, prosecution said.
Chief Supt. Tuoruka said intelligence report, however, led to the arrest of Abudul Fatao and Fatao Mohammed who admitted the offence in their caution statements.
According to the two, they were assisted by one Mohammed, who is at large, adding that they sold the vehicle to one Alhaji Baba in Togo.
Prosecution said the police have not been able to retrieve the stolen vehicle.
