Youth involvement in criminal offenses high in Wa – Police
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Stephen Tetteh, the Wa Municipal Police Commander has disclosed that about 90 per cent of the criminal offences in the Municipality are committed by the youth.
This, according to the Police Commander was a worrying trend that required the support all persons in order to fashion out alternative sustainable solutions to bring the situation under control.
DSP Stephen Tetteh disclosed this when he was invited by the Upper West Youth Parliament to address it on the increase in criminal activities within the Municipality.
He appealed to the youth parliament to use their platform to educate the youth on the need to be discipline and cut their coats according to their sizes by way of eschewing excessive love for material things they could not afford.
Mr Mumuni Sulemana, the Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA) said the Youth Parliament was an advocacy platform instituted to provide the youth an opportunity to express their concerns on some issues.
He said they usually invited the relevant stakeholders to the House to brief them on the situations and what measures were being put in place to address the situations.
Mr Sulemana said the Youth Parliament, which was made up of 75 members was also intended to improve on members’ research ability and public speaking.
