Court issues bench warrant to arrest herbalist

The Kade District Magistrate’s Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Nana Kwasi Boateng, a herbalist based at Kade, for defrauding a trader in traditional regalia.

Boateng, by false pretences, obtained “Batakari Kese”, a large smock but failed to pay for it and played “hide and seek” with the seller.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Francis Cobbina said the seller of the traditional regalia, Kwasi Ayim, lived at Srodai in Koforidua.

He said when Boateng attended a meeting in Koforidua in February he saw traditional regalia displayed in the shop of Ayim.

Chief Inspector Cobbina said Boateng did not meet Ayim in the shop so he left his telephone number to be given to him on his return.

“Ayim, on receipt of Boateng’s telephone number, made a call to him and they had a discussion,” he said.

Chief Inspector Cobbina said on March 02, Boateng directed Ayim to send some of the traditional regalia to his house for instant payment.

He said Ayim complied and supplied him with three ‘Batakari Kese’ and jewelry, totaling GH¢1,200.00

The Prosecutor said when Boateng received the items he told Ayim to wait a while so he could go to the bank to withdraw some money to pay him.

He said after long hours of waiting, Boateng returned to inform Ayim that he encountered a problem at the bank and asked him to leave, promising to transfer the money into his account the next day but the accused failed to do so.

Chief Inspector Cobbina said Ayim thereafter visited Kade on countless occasions, some on the invitations of Boateng in the efforts of collecting his money but to no avail.

He said a report was therefore made to the police and Boateng was arrested.
