Western Region awards contract on 91 feeder roads

untarred roadThe Western Regional Minister, Mr. Ebenezer Kwadwo Teye Addo, says a total of ninety-one (91) feeder roads have been awarded on contract for reshaping in the region.

He said documentation on 35 feeder roads were being processed, adding that the government was committed to improving the road network in the region to improve socio- economic activities.

Mr. Addo made the disclosure when he interacted with the staff and assembly members of the Bia East District Assembly at Adabokrom, the district capital during his maiden visit to the district.

The minister used his visit  to inspect on-going projects, including bungalows for the district chief executive, and the district co-ordinating director.

He also inspected an abandoned district hospital, as well as sites acquired for the construction of a market, a car park, a district administrative block and a senior high school.

Mr. Addo commended the traditional authorities for releasing vast land for the projects, and entreated the various heads of departments and staff of the Assembly to work in harmony to ensure the completion of the projects.

He advised management of the Assembly to complete the abandoned health facility, and construct access roads to the place, in order to use it as a temporal administrative block since the Assembly operates from a rented apartment.

The regional minister also entreated the Assembly to complete all the necessary documentation on the land acquired for the various projects in order to avoid any future encroachment.

Mr. Addo said the development of any area is measured by the level of infrastructural development, and urged various stakeholders to invest in the area to fast-tract development.

“You should use your influence to attract people to build hotels, hostels and other social amenities here in order to open up the district,” he said.

He entreated revenue collectors to re-double their efforts in order to collect enough revenue to increase the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) of the Assembly for developmental projects.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr. Kwame Twumasi-Ankrah, said although the area was one of the deprived districts in the country, it was making a lot of in-roads in terms of infrastructural development.

He appealed to the regional minister to use his good offices to fast-track the completion of the  Benchema/Osei-kojokrom road, in order to boost economic activities in the area.

Mr. Ankrah said the Assembly was drilling boreholes in some communities in the district, including Amonteng, Ahemakrom, Fosukrom, Camp 15 and others, and said the completion of the boreholes would improve water situation in those communities.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr. Joseph Apraku, appealed to the Regional  Minister to provide a vehicle for the District Police Command to intensify patrols to help combat crime in the area.

He said it was worrisome that  the forest in the area served as a hiding place for criminals, and indicated that the presence of the security would help flush out those criminals from the area.

The Bia East District was carved out of the Juabeso District in 2012.
