Aviation worker in court for defrauding Police Officers

Enoch Wereko Baffoe Bonnie, a Traffic Controller of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) who defrauded four police officers and four civilians of GHc76,700 under the pretext of buying them auctioned cars was on Wednesday arraigned for fraud..

Bonnie, who claimed to be a Bureau of National Investigations officer also promised to  facilitate recruitment of their wards into the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service and Customs, Excise and Preventive Service.

Charged with eight counts of defrauding by false pretences and impersonation, Bonnie pleaded not guilty before a circuit court in Accra.

The court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah admitted Bonnie to bail in the sum of 80,000 cedis with two sureties, one to be justified to reappear on December 30.

The court further directed Bonnie to deposit his passport with the court’s registry. He is also to report to the Police every Friday.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Isaac Dedoo told the court that the complainants were four Police officers and four civilians residing at Madina, Accra.

During the month of February this year, Bonnie introduced himself as a BNI officer and collected between GHc1,500 to GHc15,000 from complainants to purchase auction cars for them.

According to Inspector Dedoo, Bonnie was also to facilitate recruitment for the wards of the complainants into GIS, CEPS, and GPS.

Due to that he succeeded in collecting GH 76,700 cedis from the complainants.

After receiving the monies, prosecution said, Bonnie began telling stories and sending them various text messages.

He was however arrested on November 26, this year  and charged with the offence.
