FBO to promote irrigation farming at Upper Manya
The Upper Manya “Dadematsemei” Farmer Based Organization (FBO), with funding from the Business Support Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund, is to promote irrigation farming in the Upper Manya Krobo District.
The initiative aims to assist farmers to undertake all year farming.
Mr Samuel Offei Narh, Chairman of the FBO, said this at a dialogue meeting with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Extension Officers at Asesewa.
He said the organization, with a membership of 150, had been liaising with other FBOs at Akuse to tap their knowledge on the project.
Mr Louis Acheampong, Service Provider-BUSAC, said the Fund had done research and located potential sites for the project and that its goal was to create enabling environment for development and growth of the private sector.
Mr Acheampong said active operation of the irrigation would begin next year with the cultivation of vegetables such as okro, garden eggs and tomatoes.
Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, the Upper Manya Krobo District Chief Executive (DCE), lauded the organization on its efforts to undertake irrigation farming in the area.
He said about 70 percent of the population are farmers and the area also endowed with rivers that could aid the project to increase food production.
