Pregnant woman in court for fraud
Abiba Yaro, a self-styled football agent, who collected GH¢ 15,600.00 from two persons under the pretext of securing them Sultanate Oman’s visa but bolted, on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
Abiba charged with three counts of defrauding by false pretenses pleaded not guilty.
The accused person who is five months pregnant was granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000.00 with one surety.
She is to reappear on December 17.
Prosecution told the court presided over by Ms Wilhelmina Hammond that the complainants are Mr Robert Crentsil a farmer and Mr Patrick Amoah a footballer.
According to prosecution Abiba has an office at Mataheko in Accra and in August last year, Mr Crentsil expressed his intention of sponsoring three talented footballers to travel abroad for greener pastures.
Consequently, Abiba offered to secure the talented footballers Sultanate of Oman visas at a cost of GH¢15,000.00.
Prosecution said Abiba therefore demanded their Ghanaian passports and promised to secure their visas in two weeks’ time.
In the case of Mr Amoah, Abiba asked him to pay initial deposit of GH¢ 600.00 for Sultanate Oman visa and later pay GH¢ 2,500.00 after obtaining the visas.
Soon after taking the monies, Abiba went into hiding hence a complaint was lodged with the Police.
The Police, prosecution said, retrieved three passports belonging to three different people at Abiba’s mother’s house.
However, the visa’s found in the passports were found to be fake after they had been taken to Visa Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Kotoka International Airport.
The Prosecution said Abiba, claimed that the Sultanate Oman visas were to be given by one Osei who was out of the country.
