Ghana’s Aryitey wins gold at International Badminton tourney in Botswana

BadmintonGhana’s Badminton prodigy Abraham Aryitey, extended his success story on the continent with another gold medal in the Junior’s Singles event of the International Badminton Tournament held in Botswana.

Ayitey defeated Medel Youcef Sabri of Algeria in the finals to record his second gold medal in two months after achieving a similar feat at the Morocco Junior International Tournament last month.

He is now in a perfect position to qualify for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Najing, China, after picking two gold medals in the two of the four qualifiers slated for the Games.

In the Senior’s category, Daniel Sam and Emmanuel Donkor won bronze  in the Men’s Doubles.

Sam and Donkor lost to Malan Andries and Rujevic Jovica of South Africa in the semi-finals to settle for broze.

The two tournaments are Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) sanctioned event to rank players and also serve as one of the four continental qualifiers towards next year’s Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China and the main Olympics Games in 2016.

The five man contingent led by Nestor Galley, President of Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) would move to South Africa to participate in the South Africa International Badminton Tournament scheduled for Pretoria from 12-15 December.
