Ghana Health Service collaborates with Christian Health Service

A new era of effective collaboration between the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) has begun, as the two institutions on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to that effect.

Hitherto,  the largest institutions of health provision in the country had been operating parallel health programmes towards the overall achievement of the goals of the health sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, Director-General of the GHS, said the MOU would enable the two institutions to pool resources together, re-align programmes and operations to prevent wastage and leverage cross- country competence, to promote synergy in the health sector.

The MOU would seek to regulate, institutionalise and exact desired operational performance and dynamics from these agencies”, he said, and called on both health providers to commit themselves to the agreement of the MOU for a better health care delivery.

Dr Gilbert Buckle, Executive Director of CHAG, noted that for the past 46 years the Association had been providing quality health service to Ghanaians, and was optimistic that the new collaboration would help streamline their activities..

He expressed satisfaction with the MOU, as it would help come out with programmes and measures on improving  health delivery in the country.

Prof Josiah Oliver-Commey, Chairman of the GHS Council, expressed the readiness of the Service to learn from CHAG on how it (GHS) could retain younger doctors.

We would also work on coming out with the introduction of courses for doctors from both health providers”, he added.
