Security agencies urged to build capacity

The Deputy Western Regional Minister, Mr. Alfred Ekow Gyan, has appealed to the security agencies to build their capacity to deal with cyber-crime.

He said this at the Annual West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) held by the Second Battalion of Infantry at the Myohoung Barracks at Apremdo.

Mr Gyan said globalization and the internet had brought along many social vices that required the security agencies to be sophisticated enough to deal with them.

He commended the security agencies for their professionalism, circumspection and comportment in dealing with issues and appealed to them to continue to chalk more successes in the coming years.

Mr Gyan praised the security agencies in clamping down on illegal small-scale mining under Operation Calm Life” and also maintaining peace and order during the election petition trial at the Supreme Court earlier this year.

The Commander of the Second Infantry of Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel George Tawiah Sam, assured Ghanaians that the military would continue to be loyal and protect the sovereignty of the country.

He said the Unit had instituted an Education Fund that supports students that excel at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and had so far supported 15 students to further their education to second cycle institutions.

He expressed gratitude to Noble Gold Limited for supporting the Fund and appealed to other corporate bodies to contribute.
