Three suspects arrested for alleged murder

Ghana PoliceThree suspects are in the grips of the Axim Police for allegedly murdering a 52-year-old woman at Enyimbiri, near Bamianko in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

They are Mensah Blay, 30, alias Abiola, a farmer, Vincent Kwofie and Akwasi Anane Asare, who allegedly murdered Madam Adwoa Akwanim, a coconut seller.

The Axim District Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lawrence Gbele confirmed to the Ghana News Agency that the suspects would be put before court for murder.

He said Madam Akwanim, was found dead under a coconut tree with gun shots wounds and lacerations on her body with a Jute sack filled with coconuts and a machete lying beside her.

The police received report on December 18 at about 2300 hours from the Tufuhene of Enyimbiri that his relative had been found dead under a coconut tree with gun shots wounds.

DSP Gbele said police investigations revealed that one of the suspects, Blay invited the deceased to his farm at Enyimbiri, to buy some coconuts.

However, she failed to return home in the evening prompting her relatives and some members of the community go to the farm to search for her.

While the search was ongoing, they met a lady (named withheld) who informed them that she heard a gunshot in the afternoon from the direction of Blay’s farm.

The lady therefore led the search team to the suspect’s farm where the corpse was found under a coconut tree.

A report was made to the Axim police leading to the arrest of the three suspects.

DSP Gbele said Asare was also arrested to assist in investigations because he shared a common farm boundary with the suspect.

The corpse had been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy, while police investigations continued.

Madam Akwanim left behind six children.
