Korle-Bu Hospital to undertake GH¢70m infrastructure project
The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) said on Tuesday it was on the threshold of a new beginning due to its current massive retooling through the National Equipment Replacement Project.
Reverend Albert Botchway, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KBTH, noted that the Hospital would be getting new equipment and other infrastructure close to GH¢70 million.
Under the project, the hospital received a new MRI machine, a 640-slide CT scan machine, and a host of other radio-graphical equipment while 13 out of the 23 theatres were being innovated.
Rev Botchway disclosed this at its 2013 Employees’ Awards and end-of-year get together in Accra.
He said the hospital was under a new leadership that was striving to put Korle- Bu on a sound footing to enable it to achieve its mandate of providing tertiary healthcare.
“I dare say Korle- Bu has distinguished itself in the discharge of its duties that is why you find Ghanaians and people from different countries come to Korle-Bu for healthcare,” he said.
The event was introduced to serve as a source of motivation for staff members to deliver their best in whatever area they worked.
He said the recent head count the hospital embarked upon with the Ministry of Health and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department was part of the efforts to reduce the haemorrhage on Korle-Bu’s payroll.
“The exercise is proceeding steadily and we will, in due course, seal all the leakages. We are also embarking on similar exercises to block loopholes in our revenue collection mechanisms,” he said.
He said in line with the hospital’s vision of motivating staff in creating a sense of belonging, management, with the support of the board, had decided to provide staff with the hospital cloth at no cost to be used as Friday Wear.
Rev Botchway congratulated the award winners and expressed the hope that the awards would make them true ambassadors of hard work, dedication and commitment.
He thanked the staff for their contribution in the course of 2013 and urged them to rededicate themselves to achieve even more in 2014.
Ms Evelyn Kyereh of the Allied Surgery Sub-BMC, who received the department’s best worker award, expressed her appreciation to management of the hospital for recognising her work and encouraged her colleagues to work hard and show love to the patients.
Ms Mary Sowah, the overall best worker, 2013, told the Ghana News Agency that she was impressed about the award adding that she would train, educate and encourage her colleagues to work very hard in 2014 for the betterment of the hospital.
