AngloGold undertakes projects for Ghanaian communities
AngloGold Ashanti (AAI) Community Trust Fund is building a three-unit classroom block and a 32-seater aqua privy toilet facility for three communities in its catchments area.
Professor Steve Amegbe, Board Chairman, who cut the sod for work to begin, said the projects, estimated at 237,000 Ghana cedis, were being funded solely from the (AAI) Community Trust Fund.
The beneficiary communities are Adieye, Nkwantakrom and New Techiman.
Prof. Amegbe said the projects, being executed by Presthom Construction Company Limited and D. Turner Construction Company Limited, which are both Ghanaian firms, are expected to be completed within three months.
Prof Amegbe said though the board was doing all it could to ensure that the company’s primary stakeholder communities obtained the necessary development projects, the communities must ensure the projects were well protected and maintained.
He said adopting the culture of maintenance would prolong the life-span of the projects and encourage the Trust Fund to initiate more projects in those communities.
Nana Kojo Mena II, Chief of Tebrebie, who is a member of the board, thanked the company for its immense contributions to the development of the communities.
He said it was the responsibility of every Ghanaian adult to educate his child and, therefore, appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children for a better future.
Mr Kwame Prempeh, Manager of the Trust Fund, was among dignitaries who attended the function.
