Biscuit prices shoot up ahead of New Year
Ahead of the New Year’s festivities, prices of Piccadilly and other biscuits in the markets in Accra are on a gradual rise, traders said.
A market survey conducted by Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed that the price of a small box of Piccadilly biscuits has risen from GHc5 to GHc8.
Similarly, Danish cookies, which sold for GHc30.00 before the Christmas, are now going for GHc40.00.
Madam Adwoa Serwaa, a shop owner of Lee-Mart, said the price of most biscuits at the moment had gone up quite appreciably.
She appealed to buyers to bear with the traders as result of the steady rise in the prices of commodities, adding that it was hopeful that after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, things would normalize.
Madam Mary Bala, a shop owner of God’s Time Enterprise, told the GNA that she was making brisk business during the season, adding that prices of commodities depended on how customers patronized them.
Mr Albert Oduru, owner of Amazing Grace mini mart, said he was quite happy about the brisk business activities in most business centres and markets in Accra and its environs.
