Mankessim Health Centre to be upgraded
Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), says plans are underway to upgrade Mankessim Health Centre into a polyclinic.
Mr Hayfron said this at the inauguration of a shed constructed at the health centre for ante-natal and reproductive child health attendants.
He said the Assembly spent GH¢47,000 in connecting electricity to the centre, while Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Member of Parliament for the area arranged with the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama for provision of some items for the centre.
The MCE said the major problem facing the health centre is the road linking Mankessim to Krofu which is dusty and said arrangements are ongoing for the facility to be tarred.
Ms Yvonne Graham Hayfron, Municipal Director of Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the shed was constructed following the large attendants of anti-natal and reproductive child health clinics.
She said the shed, which cost GH¢800 was funded with portion of the centre’s internally generated funds and with the assistance of Nana Ama Amissah, Queen of Mankessim Traditional area.
It was also supported by Millicom, operators of Tigo telecommunications.
Ms Hayfron said the Municipal Health Directorate has initiated a programme to improve and accept more private health facilities in the municipality and as a result Sanford World-wide Clinic was inaugurated recently at Mankessim.
She urged the people to patronise the facilities and not wait for their health conditions to get worse before rushing to health centres.
Ms Sarah Sackey, Deputy Director for Nursing Services appealed to GHS to initiate sustainable programme for adolescents, saying the Service pays little or no attention to the adolescents leading to the increase in teenage pregnancy and the resultant school drop-outs.
Mr Charles Opoku, Assembly member for the area called on the authorities of the health centre to document the land to prevent encroachment.
Ms Deborah Akakpo, Corporate Manager of Millicom said for the past five years the company is moving from town to town to help the people to celebrate their festival.
She said the company has also decided to attach development projects as a corporate responsibility.
