Organized labour urges government not to freeze salary increase
The Agona District Council of Labour has asked government to rescind the decision to freeze the increase of salaries for public sector workers, as announced in the 2014 budget statement.
According to the Council, the idea would bring untold hardships to public sector workers.
Mr Francis Odoom, Chairman of the Council made the call when he interacted with the Press at Agona Swedru to wish workers a prosperous New Year and many happy returns in 2014.
He said public sector workers went through tough times when utility tariffs were adjusted.
He stated that in spite of this, government offered only 10 percent salary increment to workers which was woefully inadequate.
Mr Odoom expressed the hope that government would work around the clock in 2014 to ensure peace and stability on the labour front.
He appealed to public sector workers to go the extra mile at their various workplaces to enhance productivity.
