Ghana Police arrests illegal arms manufacturer
The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested an illegal arms manufacturer, Yaw Bediako alias “Wofa Yaw” .
This was made known by the Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Akuribah Yaagy at a press conference at Koforidua.
The 57-year-old suspect was arrested on November 22 at Bosomtwe, a village near Boti Falls in the Eastern Region.
At the time of his arrest Berdiako was found with two locally manufactured pistols, one unserviceable foreign made pistol loaded with 0.2mm ammunitions, one locally manufactured single barrel gun and one unserviceable locally manufactured single barrel gun.
Also found were one double barrel muzzle gun, two single barrel muzzles gun, “4 rounds chamber” for locally manufactured revolver, uncompleted parts for the manufacturing of revolvers, three live cartridge, one empty cartridge, one moore hammer, one machete, one knife and a substance suspected to be Indian herb was also found in the room.
Mr. Yaagy said earlier a suspect, Dawutey Kwaku alias “K”, was arrested at Somanya on November 12 for renting out weapons to criminals for a fee and one locally manufactured single barrel gun, one crowbar and two industrial cutters were found in his room.
When Dawutey was questioned he denied ownership of the items and motioned Kwesivi alias “Gosholo”, Thomas Kofi alias “Obolo”, both on the wanted list of the police and Kwame Agyei alias “Abacha” who was arrested on November 22 as the owners.
Dawutey claimed these people had no dwelling place and returned the weapons to him for safe keeping after their daily criminal operations.
Mr. Yaagi appealed to people to share information to help the police to get rid of criminals.
He said the police would protect their informants.
