Avram Grant to sign three-year contract with Ghana

Former Chelsea Manager, Avram Grant is set to ink a three-year contract as Ghana coach and over see the Black Stars from December 1, 2014 – February 28, 2017.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has said Grant, who took Chelsea to the finals of the 2008 UEFA Champions League is tasked to “Do well at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and win the 2017 tournament.”

“Grant needs time to know the players very well so we cannot ask him to win the Nations Cup. That would be unrealistic.”

The Israeli who is expected to earn in the region of $50,000 monthly wage, and has agreed to work with a local backroom staff, according to the GFA, will enjoy the freedom of brining on board whoever he deems necessary.

According to the GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Grant is also tasked with the responsibility of supervising an inbuilt philosophy for Ghana football at all levels.

Nyantakyi said “All outstanding issues with Mr Grant have been cleared and we believe he is the right man for the job.”

Grant, expected to officially take over the position on December 1, replaces Kwesi Appiah who was sacked in October, at the helm.

Appiah is the first indigenous coach to qualify the Black Stars to the World Cup.
