Grant hopes to reunite Essien and Boateng
Ghana coach, Avram Grant is eying the prospect of reuniting with Micheal Essien and Kevin Prince Boateng on condition the duo are willing to sacrifice.
Grant said on Thursday, that he was willing to reunit with Essien and Boateng who worked for him during his spell at Chelsea and Portsmouth as long as the players are willing to sacrifice for Ghana.
“For me, playing national team football is more important than playing for the club and so players have to show a willingness to sacrifice for the national team.
“Players have to be of good quality and they must also have a good mentality in dealing with matches to qualify to play for the Black Stars.”
The Isreali, tasked with doing well at the 2015 Africa Cup scheduled for Equatirial Guinea said of his philosophy of the game.
“I believe in attacking football, but I also believe that you also need players who would work very hard for the team so that the team scores goals and as much as possible, does not concede goals.
“So that balance has to be there so that the team not only plays attacking football, but defensively is strong.
“I need to analyse the players I have and their strengths so I can devise a good system for them to play in.
“I also have to analyse the opponent so that I can devise a workable system for my players. So I will not stick with just one tactical plan for the team.”
He hinted at hinging his relationship with his players on respect. “I would always respect the players I work with, but they also have to respect the GFA, the country and the people of Ghana and that is how everyone will be happy.”
On the issue of selection, Grant said that, “Now that I am coach of the Black Stars, it will be easier for me to monitor the players at closer range. Whilst I know of the players via the media, the media will not influence my selection choices. If a player is good enough, I will select him.
“If a player is playing in the local league and he is good enough, I will take him. I will be here mostly. If the local league was on, I would be scouting from amongst the local players for talents as well.”
