Kwaw Kese refused bail
Popular Ghanaian musician, Emmanuel Botwe alias “Kwaw Kese” arrested by the police over an alleged substance suspected to be cannabis, has for the second time been refused bail by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
He was on Monday asked to be held in prison custody for another two weeks to make his next appearance on December 22.
The court had been filled with family members and sympathizers, including known artistes like Lord Kenya, Tic Tac, Gemini and Edem, who were there to show solidarity.
The accused, wearing a grey suit, looked stunned, when the presiding judge, Mr. William Boampong, gave the order.
His counsel, Nana Kwesi Boaitey, had argued for bail for his client, insisting that it was unfair to continue to keep him in prison over alleged smoking of substance, which is yet to be proven as cannabis.
He pointed out that “Kwaw Kese” was “innocent” because there was no evidence against him.
Mr. Boampong would, however, not be swayed as narcotics, is one of the offences for which bail cannot be granted.
He also denied the plea by counsel to bring forward the next court appearance date for the accused.
“Kwaw Kese was said to have been caught right in the act of smoking the substance, believed to be cannabis by officers of the police drug enforcement unit at the “Plus 2 Wine Shop” at Nhyiaeso in Kumasi on Saturday, November 22, at about 2300 hours.
