Nayele Ametefe jailed 8-years in UK for carrying 12kg of cocaine
Ms. Nayele Ametefe, a Ghanaian/Austrian who was arrested at the Heathrow Airport November 10, 2014 for carrying 12kg of cocaine in her handbag has been sentenced today January 6, 2015, to a prison term of eight years and eight months in the UK.
After her arrest Ghanaian government officials confirmed reports that she exited Ghana through the VIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
According to a Joy FM news monitored in Accra, at the time of her arrest, she was carrying cash amounting to $23,000 and £6000 on her.
The report also noted that she declined to name her sponsors because she feared for the safety of her children who are still in Ghana.
“The cash according to her lawyers was given to her as part payment for carrying the drugs,” the report said.
