Ethiopian Airlines cargo aircraft in Ghana accident operating for ASKY

Ethiopian cargoThe Ethiopian Airlines freighter aircraft that was involved in an accident this afternoon at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra was operating for ASKY Airlines.

ASKY was set up by ECOWAS, the West African sub-regional group to cover the regional route after Air Afrique went bankrupt in 2002.

Ethiopian Airlines is both technical and strategic partner of ASKY.

In a press release issued by Ethiopian Airlines and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com it said, “the Boeing 737-400 freighter aircraft with registeration number ET-AQV, operating ASKY flight number KP4016 from Lome to Accra skidded off the runway with flat tyres.”

According to the release, the crew have safely disembarked and the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Other reports say the aircraft sustained substantial damage in a runway excursion on landing and the three crew members were taken to hospital.
